UP police ready to conduct peaceful and fair polls
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said on Sunday that the state police are committed to conducting the upcoming parliamentary elections in a fair and transparent manner.
He said 95 state assembly constituencies had been identified as election sensitive.
ADG Kumar told reporters that in the seven rounds of voting between February 10 and March 7, 92,821 polling stations and a total of 1,744,351 polling stations would be set up. He said there was an increase of 2.24% at polling stations and 18.45% at polling stations compared to the 2017 elections. Kumar claimed that the physical verification of all stations vote had been taken.
Kumar said instructions had been issued for crowd control in the pits. He said a separate electoral register would be kept in all state police stations to record information relating to the elections. Apart from that, instructions were issued for the maintenance, repair, cleaning of weapons, provision of riot gear and other safety equipment and tools, he added.
Regarding the prevention of the abuse of illicit alcohol during the elections, the ADG indicated that 31 checkpoints had been jointly established by the excise and police services at the international (Nepalese border) and interstate borders. , on which the officials of the excise service as well as the police force would also be present.
He said 2,676 CCTV cameras and 71 static jammers had been installed in various prisons across the state to closely monitor the activities of criminals housed in the prisons.
Kumar said 275 of these criminals had been identified in the districts and 869 held in prisons who could indirectly disrupt the elections, so their activities were being monitored.
The ADG said 95 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh were marked sensitive for various reasons at the initial stage ahead of the elections. He said that seven districts of Uttar Pradesh, namely Pilibhit, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Bahraich, Balrampur, Shravasti, Lakhimpur Kheri, were bordered by Nepal and that 14 constituencies of these districts were adjacent to the Nepalese border while the borders of 30 UP districts were linked to nine other states.
He said that for effective control of criminals and illegal contraband, 107 checkpoints would be set up at the international border and 469 at the interstate border, where regular checks would be carried out around the clock by deploying security forces. police in three teams and install CCTV cameras.
