One of the largest women’s development service organizations celebrates 100 years of fellowship, scholarship and service July 12-17, 2022.

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE, USA, November 11, 2021 / – On July 12, 2022, the pioneering women of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. will celebrate 100 years of superior excellence exemplifying their success in service and leadership across the globe. The celebration begins on January 1, 2022 in New York City as they kick off their centenary with a royal affair culminating in the final year of their journey to 100. The festivities will take place throughout the year across the United States in the cities of Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and New Orleans with the biggest event in Indianapolis, July 12-17. Founded November 12, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana on the Butler University campus by seven young educators and has since welcomed over 100,000 college and professional women from all professions. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. has served as a home for thousands of college and professional women looking for a place to share inspiring life experiences, learn new things, meet life’s challenges, thrive in society and uplifting the community through fellowship, scholarship, and service. The dynamic women of Sigma Gamma Rho have built and maintained a well-known and highly respected reputation for leading positive change. Sigma Gamma Rho’s commitment to service is expressed in its mission “Better service, greater progress”.

“Service from the heart has been a cornerstone of Sigma Gamma Rho’s efforts for nearly 100 years. The work is not difficult when it is centered on the heart, ”said Liberty.

The organization is currently headed by the Great Basileus, Rasheeda S. Liberty. The renowned 26-year-old sorority member leads more than 100,000 sorority members and serves as chairman of the board of directors, made up of 38 national and regional officers who manage the 500 sorority chapters in the United States and several country. Ms. Liberty has brought in over half a million committed funds for programming efforts for the sisterhood. To date, she has introduced new partners to the organization, such as Google, Goldman Sachs, the US military, and the OWN network. She has also propelled their advocacy efforts with key partners including When We All Vote, OWN Your Vote and The Collective. Ms. Liberty also started a professional development branch for the sisterhood, called the Sigma Flame Institute, and also hosted the first “Day of the Hill” event with members of Congress with special attention to the safety of women and youth.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc is known for more than a service sorority, but more for a destination organization for women’s development. Benefiting from partnerships with many historic Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Google and Goldman Sachs to continue their women’s development agenda around the world. The organization also has active affiliate groups dedicated to empowering women at different stages of life. Rhoer Club Affiliates (Teenage Girls) and Philos Affiliates (Sisterhood Friends) also assist Alumni Chapters with various service efforts and programs. The sorority has over 500 chapters in the United States, Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Germany, and South Korea. , the US Virgin Islands and the United Arab Emirates.

Sigma Gamma Rho has a strong heritage in the field of education which is rooted in the foundation of the organization, as it was founded by seven young educators. Today, that legacy lives on in the organization’s commitment to improving the quality of life for women and their families through education and community outreach. The organization offers a list of programs ranging from women’s safety, wellness to youth preparation, but its flagship program is Swim1922. The organization touched 20,000 lives through its Swim 1922 program, which teaches swimming and water safety to children and adults. Their proud history of providing positive and proactive community outreach nationally and internationally. Found six (6) schools around the world over the past 20 years in the countries of Haiti and Ghana. Advance their advocacy agenda for another 100 years in the areas of education, voter registration, sex trafficking and the safety of all women, and health.

Their members are dedicated to changing the world and their organization’s unwavering legacy is illuminated by 100 years of women’s empowerment. National events leading up to the Centennial Celebration will begin with the July 2022 Ball and end with a multi-day Centennial Celebration in November 2022 in Indianapolis, IN.
